2013 Awards and Nominations for Scientists from the Institute for Literature

On July 4, in the National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodius” foyer took place the literary evening, dedicated to the 120 -th anniversary of the poetess Elisaveta Bagryana’s birth. The event was organized by the Institute for Literature and provoked great interest, it was attended by scientists and Bulgarian literature lecturers from the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", the Provdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”, the Institute for Literature, the Institute for Balkan Studies with Center for Thracian Studies, the National Literary Museum, the New Bulgarian University, from other universities in the country, as also by writers, poets, historians, contemporaries= Guests of the event were Elisaveta Shapkareva, poetess’s granddaughter, friends and relatives of Ivan Bochev, to whom most of the newly published letters were addressed ("Elisaveta Bagryana. Letters. ").

On June 4th , at the National Library "St. St. Cyril and Methodius " the National conference "How 21st Century reads Assen Bosev" was held. The event was organized by "Modern and Contemporary Bulgarian Literature" Department at the Institute for Literature – BAS and was opened by Prof.Boryana Hristova, Director of the National Library and Assos.Prof. Elka Traykova, Director of the Institute for Literature. Professor Hristova said that the National Library was the place, where every writer had to be celebrated – it was the place where his books were stored.

On May 29th , at the exhibition space of Sofia Event Center (Paradise Center – 100 "Cherni Vrah" Blvd, 3rd floor) opened the Spirit of Letters and Signs Exhibition. Organizers of the event are The City Media Group, in partnership with the Bulgarian Memory Foundation, Institute for Literature - BAS and the National Academy of Arts. The exhibition is devoted to the 1150th anniversary of the Great Moravian mission of the Saint Brothers Cyril and Methodius. It combines two creative ideas in an original synthesis between history, tradition and contemporary sensibility.

On May 24th at the Institute for Philology Studies at Kiev National University opened the unique „Treasure of Words” exhibition, dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the Great Moravian Cyril and Methodius mission. The opening of the exhibition became a true celebration at the Department for Slavic Studies at KNU and met not only teachers and students, but also diplomats, scientists, researchers, representatives of various academic, cultural and social institutions in Kiev.

On May 26th, at the Institute for Philology Studies at the Kiev National University "Taras Shevchenko" the Center for Bulgarian Language, Literature and Culture was opened on a high academic and diplomatic level. Guests at the ceremony were Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs. Margarita Popova, the Prorector of the international activities, Prof. Petro Bech, HE Mr. Krasimir Minchev - Ambassador of Bulgaria in Ukraine, Director of the Institute for Philology Studies, Prof. Gregory Semenyuk, Mr. Anton Kisse, member of the Parliament of Ukraine and President of the Association of Bulgarians in Ukraine, Head of the Department for Slavic Studies Prof. Olga Palamarchuk, teachers and Bulgarian language students, various academic and public institutions’ representatives.

Institute for LiteratureSpecialists in Ancient Bulgarian, Renaissance and modern and contemporary Bulgarian literature from the Institute for Literature - BAS attended the Third International Congress of Bulgarian Studies, organized by the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and "Alma Mater" University Humanitarian Studies Complex. The congress, which noted Sofia University 125th anniversary was financed by the "Scientific Research" Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science and was held from 23 to 26 May 2013 under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rossen Plevneliev.

The exhibition reveals the rich literary traditions of Bulgaria, showing the best examples of the written heritage from the late ninth to the fourteenth century. The origin of literature in the second half of the ninth century - one of the most significant events in the culture of Medieval Europe, is associated with the activity of the Slavonic brothers Constantine-Cyril and Methodius before their mission to Great Moravia in 863. On April 10, 2013, in the Great Hall of the Institute for Literature the premiere of the collection in honor of Prof. Svetozar Igov "Spaces of speech" was held. The event was attended by many leading literary critics, writers, poets, teachers, students and friends of Professor Igov. Host of the event was Assos. Prof.Elka Traykova who introduced to the concept and history of the book, presented the wealth of research fields and approaches in the book, formed with a remarkable design idea. Professor Igov told precious memories of people and events of the literary life in Bulgaria, shared interesting ideas about the literary history and present. Read more...

The exhibition was realised by scientists from the Institute for Literature and with the support of Dr. Andrey Kovachev’s Bulgarian Memory Foundation. Dr. Andrey Kovachev is chairman of the Bulgarian delegation in the fraction of the European People’s Party.
